What should I dress up as for rock and roll day and for character day?

This week is homecoming week, and we have a rock and roll day and a character day and I don't know what I should wear!|||For rock and roll you could just dress up as any female rock and roll star but for character day it really depends on you and what you like. First think about what your favourite movie is (not the comedy ones) and then think of a character you could play from that and then dress up as it! Good luck.

How do I get rock and roll makeup without looking goth?

Whenever I try rock and roll makeup, My eyes itch and the bottom eyeliner goes everywhere and it makes me look too goth. It also makes my mom crazy when i try to make it so I need something low-key. Help?

-AVRIL ^_^|||Just put eyeliner on the top lid, and then on the corners. Don't go all the way at the bottom. You still get the look, just a bit more calmed down.|||Try putting all the focus on your eyes with soft grey shadows. Whist putting eyeliner on, lay it on thick and then get a q-tip to wipe some off. A thin line can go a long way. Also make sure you have clear skin. No blush is needed. Also, keep your lips neutral.|||Try some colorful eye-shadow or eye-liner. Do most rock and roll guitar players know how to read music?

I mean like Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads or Jimmy Hendrix. I know it's impossible to know, but approximately what percent of really good rock and roll guitarists do you think play mostly by ear?|||Typically no. Jimi %26amp; SRV said they couldn't read music. Rock players are known for not reading music. Mostly classical %26amp; studio/session guitarists can read music.|||Steve Howe of YES (who I consider to be one of the best in the world) was once asked if he could read music. His answer was "Yes, but not enough to hurt me".

I read, but haven't a need to score out music since my last progressive rock band at the end of the 70's. (When you're playing a 20 minute long piece that changes time signatures every time you blink, it helps).

Most rockers don't read. Most jazz players do, and for classical it's a requirement. But, if you get a chance to learn how to read music I say do it. It's kind of like being in a country where you don't speak the language. You can get by, but it's a lot easier if you do speak the local tongue.

Why is the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland?

Is there any significance of the rock and roll hall of fame being in Cleveland?? Or is it just a random place to pick?|||Rolling Stone had a vote and Cleveland won, also Allan Freed(?) coined the term "Rock and Roll" there.|||Because Cleveland Rocks Baby!!!

Its Cleveland is awesome!|||Because Cleveland Rocks!!!!!!!!|||Because nobody else wanted it, and Cleveland was dumb enough to pay for it. Meanwhile, the city is broke and the hall brings in no money.

Do rock and roll radio stations annoy you?

I would rather listen to rock and roll than anything else but radio stations suck! All they do is play the same songs over and over that were the most popular. I want to here different stuff from different bands not just acdc and queen.|||I'm on the fence about this one, my area's rock station (D.C.101) plays all types of rock.

But, they do overplay Kids by MGMT and 1901 by Pheonix. It was too bad, I really liked those songs, until they over killed it.

But I still like Kids. MGMT ftw.|||haha yep. I never hear ACDC or Queen on my station, but in one day you can hear the song "1901" and "lisztomania" by Phoenix maybe 25 - 30 times. They play new divide by linkin park about 15 times, and any muse song every hour.

It goes like that every day.....|||The radio died when Alison Steele went silent. RIP "Nightbird" you're sorely missed.

How do you think a rock and roll band will do in the music industries today?

I hate today's pop, rap, hip hop, "emo" music. Will a rock and roll band actually be popular?|||thats what classics are for, the oldies, metal, classic rock. Just listen to rock n roll what you wish. I wonder though, being only 19, what kind of music they could possibly come out with that would make me not want to listen to it and think it is evil. You know like how rock back in the 50s was considered vulgar, the actions they were doing. Did a black person invent rock and roll alone?

I think that it's BS to say they did it alone.

Rock and roll came from a lot of places.

Whites, blacks, and (I wouldn't be surprised if) Spanish people were all in on it.

Besides rock is not a black or white music

It's a music for all people

It was made for rebellion.

Rebellion sees beyond race.|||no black person invented rock and roll .blacks are musical people . but in the slave days blacks would sing in the fields when picking cotton. but it was nothing like rock and roll.. they started jud joints where blacks would meet and sing the blues.. elvis and other singers copied and added to it making it rock and roll|||In the beginning of the fifties, white music was very tame, while black music was lively RnB, a mixture of uptempo blues and gospel, that became noticed by some white musicians. The term rock'n'roll was coined by a DJ called Alan Freed, when white musicians played what was essentially black music and made it acceptable for white teenagers.

Bill Hailey, Elvis Presley and others took black music, made it a bit whiter and made money out of it, while black musicians still played only to black audiences.

So basically, rock'n'roll was invented by black musicians.|||Rock n' Roll was not invented by any one person, but it was definitively a black artform. In the 50s, white kids who liked it were seen as rebellious, hence the "rebel" matra. Following the hippie movement, ppl began to integrate electric guitars in leiu of a piano and it became a more interracial artform.|||Black folks certainly influenced Rock and Roll.... They may not have created it - but there influence and beat sure was......|||It's a music for all people !

What should I wear to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony?

IDK that's a tough one to dress for b/c it is rock n roll I would think anything goes but maybe you should try googling or looking on the rock halls web site of past induction ceremonies and see what people wore. I'm sure stars dress up a lot but look for background people and see what they wear. You can never go wrong with a hot little black dress and some heels.|||You have options

What is the basic harmony of rock and roll?

Also Rock and Roll is a euphemism for what?

for my music theory class.|||The term Rock N Roll, started way back to 1916 where it was then "Rocking and Rolling" meaning how gospel music moved you spiritually and emotionally. By the 1920's, "Rocking and Rolling" was a way to say s e x and get it past the censors of the day. By the time the 1930's came along the meaning changed from s e x to dancing. In the 1950's Allen Freed shortened the name to Rock N Roll, and was the first time the term was used to describe a type of music.

Do you have to smoke cigs to really enjoy Rock and Roll?

I love rock and roll and music in general. A LOT of songs mention cigarettes by many bands and artist. So my questions is, to enjoy rock and roll to its zenith, must I become a smoker? Is there something about smoking cigarettes that make rock and roll more fun?|||wtf are you smoking? no way.|||I get you. All around you on a daily basis you鈥檙e going to run into people that don鈥檛 smoke. Do these people seem like they鈥檙e enjoying life any less than you are? Do they appear to be enjoying themselves less because they don鈥檛 smoke? Do they appear more stressed out? What you should see is that all those people around you who don鈥檛 smoke are exactly like you are 鈥?and they go through the exact same things that you do, with the only difference being that they don鈥檛 immerse themselves in clouds and clouds of smoke!

But many people that do smoke continue to do so simply because they feel a need to. The general feeling is that if they were to stop smoking they鈥檇 end up feeling more down, less happy, more stressed out, etc. While it is true that smoking releases dopamine which causes a slight euphoria and makes you feel relazed 鈥?the question that you should really be asking yourself is whether or not you need smoking in order to be able to feel content and relaxed!

From the beginning of your life, right up to the point where you started smoking, you managed to cope well without cigarettes. What makes you think that you need to smoke or you wouldn鈥檛 be able to cope from this point forward? When exactly did you start feeling that way? Chances are, you probably don鈥檛 even remember the exact point when you became dependent on cigarettes 鈥?but that really doesn鈥檛 matter.

All things said and done, smoking is a habit that is dangerous 鈥?and it will probably end up killing you unless you quit at some point or other. Now that you know that there鈥檚 really no justification for thinking that you 鈥榥eed鈥? cigarettes, it is up to you to take the next step, and firmly decide to kick your unwanted habit!

God bless!|||No not at all. Most rockers smoke because they like to do things that make them feel/look bad (cool). Society has made it seem like rock n roll is all about drinking and smoking, but it really isnt. They only make it seem that way because most of the geniuses behind the music smoked and drank. The only real way to enjoy and appreciate rock music is to discover its meaning and to have the ability to relate to it. Alot of bands glorify smoking, but that's just to look cool and draw attention to themselves. I've enjoyed rock music to it's fullest without smoking or drinking my whole life. Alcohol only impairs your thoughts and smoking is just another addiction. Smoking definitely isn't worth it. Cigarettes are very bad for your health and can cause damage that can never be fixed. Once you smoke and fill your lungs with tar, you can't get rid of it. Cigarettes are highly addicting and a waste of money. At 6 bucks a pack, with an addiction that runs through a pack every two days..you'd be spending an extra $1086 a year, JUST on ciggarettes. To enjoy rock is to actually feel and understand it's true meaning. Don't throw your life away on cigarettes over rock music. Rock music is better interpreted without drugs, smoking and alcohol.

Hope this helps|||No. Now whether being a smoker is seen as rebellion and gives you more cred with a certain audience is a different matter. Personally I'd rather not be seen as cool and "one of us" by the smoker crowd but to each their own. The proven effects of it far outweigh any socialization benefit.|||Smoking doesn't help you enjoy anything. It doesn't make you look cool. It stinks. It's constant pain on the lungs. And there's always the looming threat of lung cancer. Do yourself a favor and just forget about cigs. They're not worth anything, and it is too difficult for a lot of people to quit.|||Sure, if hacking up a lung and being treated for emphysema or lung cancer is your idea of fun.

You don't need cigarettes to enjoy music. You don't need to get drunk to have fun at a party. You don't need drugs to get friends.|||Plz no not another smoker in America I haven't ever touched one and I'm so obsessed with rock. I even know the stuff about ppl I don't like|||i don't know about smoking but i know riding down the road with a big dip in with the windows rolled down singing farmers daughter is pretty fun :)|||Lol no hell no more ale if anything dont take up smoking please|||Trolling at its finest|||No, you don't.|||A lot of songs are about dope too...and I wouldn't really suggest that.|||lol no, but try LSD|||No. end of story

Is Rock and Roll a more valid metaphysical system of enlightenment than Christianity?

can the God's of rock and roll show one how to become the most high better than Jesus? Could Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin be the light and the way?|||I don't know. Why don't you ask yourself Alien Jesus?|||rock tends to encourage demon worship whereas Christianity promotes a good guy...a better system unites both these views..that universe is beyond good and bad..is both..is neither x|||Pre-school is a more valid metaphysical system of enlightenment than Christianity.|||Absolutely.|||if you happen to be a musician - yes.

How is Bob Marley Related to rock and roll?

I'm doing a school project and I'm not sure how Bob Marley and his related to rock and roll. I know he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and his music had rock influences, but I'm looking for more.

Thanks!|||Reggae influenced Punk, Hip-Hop, and other genres of music, and Bob Marley was the first (and pretty much only) reggae artist to achieve the success he did, and become known worldwide.|||SMB has it right - He is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for his influence on some great rockers - Punk uses a lot of the technigues he inovated. Eric Clapton brought Marley to the main stream rock scene when he covered "I Shot The Sheriff".

What was the big deal about rock and roll?

What was the big deal about rock and roll, do you think? How did it tie into other currents going on in the 1950s, and what does that suggest about the perception and study of history?|||It was a big deal because it was so different from what the older generation was used to. What it means for history is that it is a part of a pattern in culture changes: like with a lot of other things, young people wanted one thing, and their parents and grandparents thought that it was outrageous and that it was corrupting youth. If you look at some TV appearances of Elvis Presley in the 50s, you will see that they never show him below waist. That's because his way of dancing (moving hips) was considered too sexual and it clashed with American puritanical values. Historical lesson: cultures change.

Another reason why rock and roll was significant was that it was starting to overcome racial segregation. Rock and roll started as "black" music, but to the avail of white people, their kids liked it too. As at that time whites were kind of afraid of blacks due to all the stereotypes (at least so I have learned from To Kill a Mockingbird; I was not actually there), it was a big deal that their white kids were suddenly visiting places frequented by blacks and mingled with them. Again, it was a battle of generations.|||Rock music was the transition of music and of culture. The older generation was used to singing traditional songs that were usually church hymns. When people such as Elvis and the Beatles came along, society started to change and move forward. It would take me a long time to describe the whole thing..So here are some links to further your research. Good luck!

How can I combine classical music with rock and roll?

I want to combine classical music with rock and roll, while playing the guitar, to develop something. I mean, to turn the classical pieces into rock and roll and heavy metal. Lots of people use classical themes and play them as rock and roll. It just shows a lack of originality.

The results of the combination are rarely very good.|||poorly.

... try using original themes and thoughts.

What would happen in a hypothetical rock and roll apocalypse such as this?

If one day, suddenly, every great rock musician died in the night, which of the following do you think would happen?

A) Rock and roll would die out or be taken over. Crap music would rule the world and it would suck.

B) There would be a period of mourning for a few years but there would be a musical revolution in the next generation.

C) An tiny undergound society of rock fans would form, creating a tightly-knit worldwide community

D) Other - feel free to explain and be imaginative.|||If you only listen to the radio, you might conclude that Rock is already dead.

I am mourning it.

I am starting the revolution.

I am underground.

join me. |||D. I think rock and roll would suddenly explode. Imagine the amount of legacy building that would happen in one day. The number of album re-issues would EXPLODE.

I mean look at people like Kurt Cobain, sure they had sucess alive, but dead they've obtained pretty much social-deification. Imagine that effect several times over.....|||Hey Hun! Nice to see you

Crap music would rule the world and it would suck? that is already happening in a sense with the mainstream just look at overrated bands like Coldplay and Metallica

over all B would prob happen we would mourn for our fallen soldiers and the underground metal scene would take over|||I'm thinkin of the end of the Spongebob movie. When he started playin the hell out of his guitar and freed all the people of Bikini Bottom from Plankton thru the power of rock.

Yeah somethin like that|||C. And I would keep it going by teaching my daughter about rock music and she could pass it on to her friends.

=)

But you know a lot of good musicians are already dead and their fans still keep their music alive.|||D) I believe it would rise rock to its highest plateau ever and bring all rockers of all genres together for a massive killing of trends and pop music!!!|||D. They will rise again. Stronger and more powerful than ever! With new material, obviously.

No I go with B. that would suck though, eh.|||i would have to say c because i know i would die if i didn't have rock so i would continue to listen to keep it alive|||B alot of future bands that are kids in garages right now|||B)|||B|||B for shizzel hehe :P|||rock died years ago. What happened to the Rock and Roll Gymnastics Competition?

In the 90's there was a Rock and Roll Gymnastics Competition that athletes like Dominque Moceanu used to preform in. Do they have it anymore? Or is it replace by Progressive's Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular?|||I don't think they have that type of competition anymore. It is similar to the Skating and Gymnastics spectacular, from what I have seen. Unfortunately, many gymnastics events are no longer televised. They used to televise meets like USA vs. USSR. You could see new stars and everything. They also had some world professional championships in the 90s that no longer exist.

What to wear for a rock and roll school theme?

The theme for the first day of school is rock and roll and I don't know what to wear.

Is rock and roll similar to punk? Could I wear like punk styles for rock and roll?|||That's a pretty generic theme. After all, you have 50s rock, but then there's 60s garage rock, not to mention psychadelica. The excesses of 70s rock was undercut in '76 by punk rock, etc. etc.

Go with the safe option %26amp; try 50s wear.|||Originally, rock and roll styles were like those seen in "Grease" and "Bye-Bye, Birdie"

http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/vi鈥?/a>|||Rock and roll is actually very similar to punk. The spiked hair, tight jeans funky tops, colors in hair, just really funky!

What should i wear to my rock and roll themed sweet sixteen party?

My sweet sixteen is coming up and its kinda like old rock and roll themed. if that makes sense k its rock and roll themed and i was thinking about wearing a plain white satin dress and over that a long black blazer with some funky heels.

any suggestions?|||mm..

how about a plain simple dress no sparkles or anything hannah montana like. a rugged worn out cropped leather jacket and killer heels..

http://www.zimbio.com/Chanel+Iman/articl鈥?/a>

http://www.katehurst.com/images/collecti鈥?/a>|||First, pick out the main colors that you want to coordinate with the party and your dress. I suggest a plaid skirt, leggings, leather belt, and a plain spaghetti tank accompanied with a cropped vest/jacket.

Or you could always switch the plaid skirt with jeans. Rock and roll's all about doing what you feel. Heck, why not close your eyes and pick something out of your closet? Be fun, you're the star of the show!|||For rock and roll, if you want to wear a dress thats cool but punk it up and rock it up with like you said a leather jacket or something edgy like that. some cute kitten heels in like a cheetah print or blood red would also look very rock and roll. purple, black, and red are good colors. other ideas if you drop the dress idea could be some ripped jeans, not overdone, and a rock shirt like iron maiden. throw on some ray bans and have a great party :)

At what point did rock and roll go from being about having a good time to whiny bullcrap?

Example, 30 years ago you would rock and roll all night and party every day. Now you dress in black and whine and complain about everyone else who has a good time while you are going through a bisexual phase. When did this happen exactly and is there any way to reattach rock and roll's testicles?|||Right about the time of Nirvana's demise. I don't blame Nirvana themselves, because if you really know them, you know they had a good sense of humor. It's the bands that came after them, who were inspired by Nirvana but felt that grunge required depression 100% of the time. And since we're still living in a world dominated by that sound and influence (it's unbelievable that the grunge mentality still dominates mainstream rock 20 years after the fact), it hasn't changed. It doesn't help that society has practically made overt masculinity a taboo.

"A lot of rock I listen to is a yawn. I know what's coming. A lot of hard rock today sounds joyless. Bands forget to have fun. Rock should be played from the crotch not the brain." - Alice Cooper|||Wasn't trying to be funny ;P

Music is like art. Most forms of music express some sort of emotion, being happy, sad, angry, or whatever like that. Artists paint pictures that express the emotions they are feeling using color and shapes.

Cheap 80s rock is like drawing a picture of a penis

|||30 years ago rock and roll was filled with crappy lyrics that any 5 year old could write. Plus the haircuts were even more ridiculous than the emo hair cuts of today.

Not that I'm standing up for whiny bullcrap, but if you think the 1980s had better music than whats on now, you need to reevaluate music. Personally, I think that right now music has cycled through to a phase that is very similar to the 80s style. Crazy obsessed speed guitar, screeching solos, and crappy lyrics (cough nickleback). Just be happy that at least the 80s didn't have "tough" emo kids trying to hardcore dance by flailing their arms and legs around like lunatics.

If you want balls on your music, listen to metal. Like real metal, not hardcore bullshit.

If you want music about having a good time, listen to kid-cudi. "But that doesn't have a pair of testicles waaaaah." Then listen to some nickleback. I think the song "animals" has what you're looking for. But everyone is going to Lol at your musical taste.|||Probably the late 90's/early 2000s when the Emo/Goth thing was in its infancy. Don't be bothered by it, just break out an AC/DC album and remember the good times or tune into http://www.knac.com|||About the time they began letting no talent misfits with lousy personal hygiene and the ability to play three chords on a guitar and screech into a microphone make records.|||oh there was whiny crap back then, too.

How did Rock and roll bring us to the music we have today?

For example, how did rock inspire artists to create music genres such as rap, and other new songs/genres that we now have. Also, did rock and roll always have a rebellious tune? If not how did it change to that?|||Popular Music as we know it derived from the blues. Perhaps 'Rap' came from what was known as 'Talkin Blues' which is what it says, maybe.|||I'm not so sure that Rock N' Roll evolved into Rap music, but I think Jazz and R%26amp;B did that. Rock N' Roll created pretty much all "musically driven" music.|||just like writing, poetry, animals.. EVERYTHING evolves into different forms|||Magic.

Actually Pretty Much all Modern Music is descended from Jazz.

Elvis Buddy Holly And The Such turned jazz into slower music.
