Why is there a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

What is its purpose, do the bands get anything for entering? And why does it induct people whose music isn't rock or metal?|||the founder and publisher of rolling stone jann wenner needed a place to house his personal fan club for bands that he likes. he then came up with the concept of a rock and roll hall of fame to house his rock and roll memorabilia and to fleece the pockets of aging baby boomers and young people who still believe rolling stone magazine to be relevant.|||Hello there



$$ that is the answer. Cleveland makes money having folks some see the HOF. It does not matter how good or bad the HOF really is. There will be folks who come to see it and then spend $$ in Cleveland.



From a rock standpoint, who gets into the HOF is a puzzle.

None of these are in there:

The Cure

Chicago

Hall and Oates

Rush

Alice Cooper

Moody Blues

E.L.O.

Cheap Trick

Bad Company

Peter Frampton

Heart

T-Rex

Bon Jovi

Journey

Foreigner

Public Enemy

Red Hot Chili Peppers (this was their first year of eligibility)



Yet there are a some entertainers who I do not consider to be rock who are in there. I was not a KISS fan, but I acknowledge that they were one of they have one of the biggest followings of any rock band. They were extremely influential in their prime. Yet afte 15 years of eligibility, KISS is not in there. Even George Harrison, individually, did not get into the HOF until 2004, Yep they only thought about him after he was dead. Man if they can miss George Harrison for all that time, and if they continue to miss KISS for all these years, just how the selections are made is a puzzle.

Later,|||Well, at the time it was created (which was the 80's, I think) the people who created it wanted to recognize the achievements in rock music. But now it's pretty much a biased joke.|||idk why they induct people like madonna but it is just a way for bands to prove that they are rock legends etc. it is good publicity too. its like a museum just like all the other hall of fames.|||People are always bitching about who is and who isn't in the Hall of Fame regardless the collection of artifacts it obtains is amazing.|||Why are there sports hall of fames? It recognizes people/bands who made huge contributions to music, although they don't have to be strictly rock or metal.|||Money|||to honor people
